Punta del Este
With its many beaches, seaside homes, yacht harbors, high-rise apartment buildings, exclusive hotels, chic boutiques and glitzy restaurants, "Punta" is South America's most glamorous resort destination. Punta is teeming with big names and jet-setters. Surrounding towns caught up in the whole Punta scene include the famed club zone of La Barra to the east and Punta Ballena to the west. Punta itself is confined to a narrow peninsula that officially divides the Río de la Plata from the Atlantic Ocean.
As a prime touristic destination, Punta del Este offers many attractions and activities. Beach and water are at the heart of the Punta del Este experience. The port and beaches provide excellent conditions and complete services for any water sport you may want to enjoy. Rentals are available, from yachts to surfboards! Also golf, horseback riding, and all club sports are there for the family to enjoy through day-passes.
Punta's cuisine, entertainment and nightlife are second to none. The whole coast has a large selection of fine dining restaurants that cater to every pallet from seafood to meat to Italian, French, Argentinean and more. La Barra’s tranquil daytime beach scene turns to a lively club scene at night.
Art, architecture and culture are marvels of Punta del Este, from contemporary Latin American art at Ralli Museum, to the art gallery district in La Barra, to Punta Ballena’s Casapueblo. When you’re going on your pre-race rides, you will ride by neighborhoods of homes with every kind of architecture, randomly scattered one aside the next, it makes for a unique sight. A walk down Avenida Gorlero is a step into Punta’s history.
Course
GFNY Punta del Este's course is demanding, and it honors its name. From city, to beach, to sprawling cattle ranches and past iconic architecture, this race will challenge and amaze you.
The race starts at the center of Punta del Este and does a loop along Punta del Este’s coastline, past the scenic yacht harbor, past the iconic “La Mano” (The Hand) beach sculpture and over the famous La Barra wave bridge. From there, you race with breathtaking coastal views in famous beach & party towns of La Barra and Manantiales. In Manantiales, you leave the coast behind and the challenge begins. You will race past vast cattle ranches and scenic, remote villages on small, rural roads. The whole course has police-moderated traffic.
The wind will dictate your pace, and wind direction will vary. The climbs are short, but they are steep. On the long course, there is a stretch of 80km of unrelenting climbs ranging from 300m to 1km long, with inclines averaging 8% to 12%.The long course is indeed long and challenging, while the recreational medium route is more attainable, both in distance and climbing.

LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only the finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course. Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.
MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.
South American Championship
GFNY Punta del Este 2022 serves as the GFNY South American Championship.
The top 20% of finishers in each age group will start in the Qualifier Corral at all GFNYs for the next 380 days.
Overall Champions (man and woman) of the GFNY South American Championship win flights, hotel and entry to GFNY World Championship NYC 2022 to compete for the GFNY World Championship crown.

THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Punta del Este race jersey, which is mandatory attire at the race. The jersey is designed in NYC and Made in Italy.
CHIP TIMING: GFNY Punta del Este is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results for all riders will be provided at the finish area on race day and online after the race.
FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Florida Sebring finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they completed. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2022 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.

No matter your goals or level of experience in cycling, whether you have a couple of months to tune-up, or half a year to change yourself completely as an athlete, you will be ready to hit that PB, get your highest placing ever, or just finish your first GFNY race.
