GFNY Punta del Este 2027 returns to one of its most emblematic versions.
With Route 60 already restored and Route 12 expected to be completed in time for race day, GFNY Punta del Este 2027 returns to a course configuration that helped define the identity of this race. The hills return, the real climbs return, along with the wind, the sea, and a course that demands preparation, intelligence, and strong legs.
The race begins by the ocean and heads toward Pan de Azúcar, often with the sea breeze pushing from behind. But that fast, open opening stretch is only the prelude to what comes next: a complete, scenic and demanding course, with spectacular landscapes and sections capable of creating real differences.
Long course – 146 km / 1700 m of elevation gain
In Pan de Azúcar, the long course heads into the hills via Route 60 and brings back one of the most characteristic sections in the history of GFNY Punta del Este. This is where the terrain that gave the race its prestige and personality reappears: serious climbs, gradients above 10%, and a sequence of efforts that forces riders to manage every move and every reserve with precision.
Route 60 offers an impressive combination of toughness and beauty. Riders pass through hilly landscapes, cultivated fields, olive groves and vineyards, in an environment that is as spectacular as it is selective. After the descent of Ramallo, the race turns toward Route 12, where a long climb of about 8 kilometers begins before the course enters rolling terrain that continues to wear down the legs.
After crossing Route 9, Route 12 continues with its long, undulating and demanding profile until it reconnects with Route Interbalnearia. From there, the race takes on the eastern side of Punta Ballena, located just 10 kilometers from the finish, a classic climb that has more than once decided the outcome.
This course once again places the long distance at the level of what a true gran fondo should be: a race that is hard, beautiful, and deserving of respect.
Medium course – 86 km / 715 m of elevation gain
The medium course shares the opening section to Pan de Azúcar, but from there it continues along Route 9 instead of heading deeper into the hills. It is a shorter version, but by no means an easy one.
With wide-open panoramas, rolling terrain, and several meaningful climbs, the medium distance demands solid preparation and constant focus. Later, it connects with Route 12, adds accumulated difficulty, and then heads back toward Route Interbalnearia to also face the eastern side of Punta Ballena, just 10 kilometers from the finish.
The finish at Parador Pedro Figari on Playa Mansa completes an experience that fully preserves the character of GFNY Punta del Este: a scenic, demanding and authentic race.
A course with identity
GFNY Punta del Este 2027 is not a ride. It is a true gran fondo: sea, hills, wind, demanding climbs, and a finale capable of changing everything.
The course returns to one of its most emblematic versions and, with it, a vital part of the identity of GFNY Punta del Este returns as well.
LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only the finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course. Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.
MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.
THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Punta del Este race jersey, which is mandatory attire at the race. The jersey is designed in NYC and Made in Italy.
CHIP TIMING: GFNY Punta del Este is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results for all riders will be provided at the finish area on race day and online after the race.
FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Punta del Este finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they completed. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2027 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.
